Why Your Obedience Matters, Part II

Saying yes to God will never get old, and He will never get tired of having children who willingly say yes to Him.

This is a two part post. I reflected a little bit on my own “yes” journey with God and why saying yes to God is important in the first place. If you haven’t read that, here it is. I suggest you read that first!
In all transparency, this topic is a thing for me and with new decisions I have to revisit it. For some, this is “just a blog” or “just a site”  and no big deal. For me though, sometimes I feel so drowned out in millions of voices. I used to blog as a hobby in high school, but writing is a grace among many given to me from God so I understand that I must steward it.
Since He asked me to begin this again, There are times I think, “God, there are SO many strong and prominent voices already. Why do you need mine? They are saying everything already; what is there left for me to say?” I know I’m not the only one who may think like this from time to time. It’s when I sober up, I realize that those are the lies of the enemy coming in the forms of questions. I see you Eve 👀.
I’m learning that a huge part in saying yes to God is coming to a resolve that who you are is unique and your yes corresponds to YOUR calling. No one else’s so the pressure of comparison shouldn’t be a thing. The tone of your voice with God’s Word and you operating in purpose is what will draw people to Him, not you alone in who you are. It takes availability above all effort.
Another big part of giving God a yes is submitting to God all insecurity. Insecurity will bring you to attempt to be someone who aren’t or someone who you think others will accept. It takes bravery to be authentic! Sitting at His feet is what will make us brave.
What I’m about to share isn’t exhaustive… meaning that these aren’t the only things to consider when saying yes to God. But there are countless examples we can pull from when it comes to those who are willing to walk with God day to day.
A yes to God will bring:
1. A ministry, but not necessarily with a microphone.
Saying yes to God does not always mean five fold ministry or a position in the church. Be okay with that.
We need anointed governors, basketball players, psychologists, doctors, cashiers, philanthropists, teachers, professors, designers, real estate agents, lawyers, geniuses, musicians and entertainers.
Daniel in the Bible was a seer prophet and was also a government official. He interpreted dreams and also worked in governance. So did Joseph… he was a manager, a prison security guard, an economist and a CFO, if we put his roles into today’s terms. Yet he interpreted dreams with accuracy and gave all the glory to God. Deborah was a wife, a prophet, and a judge. Esther was a queen and an intercessor. Priscilla and Aquila were tent makers and Apostolic voices.
We all don’t need a microphone but God needs our lives to give Him a platform.
2. Changes in your life assignments.
Jesus, as our life’s example came to earth for the purpose of salvation and to fulfill the law.
What did that look like? He accomplished that in various assignments such as:
  • Healing the sick
  • Raising the dead
  • Rebuking those who looked to counteract His assignment
  • because they were a stumbling block to those who needed Him (Pharisees)
  • Delivering the oppressed
  • Teaching
  • Doing miracles
  • Raising and discipling successors who would do the same so the legacy (the Gospel) would continue
  • Demonstrating the Kingdom of God
His purpose was accomplished over three years and culminated with His death and resurrection… and still continues! Your yes points to your purpose and branches out into different assignments. Looking at your life, what do you believe your purpose is?
3. New people to pour into what you have.
Each assignment will be filled with people that your life will give context. Your experiences,
the way you speak, what you say, the life experiences you share…even your demeanour will tell those people something they need to hear that will shift the way they look at their own lives and stories. You may not even know what they see! But who you are as you are is what they need.
They will be people that you’ve never met before, but God will place along your path.
In Acts, Philip met an Ethiopian eunuch reading a passage in Isaiah. He had never met this man before; yet when God sent him, Philip had the perfect answer for this man so he could be saved and baptized! It was in obedience to God’s instructions that the eunuch was saved. Go read the story in Acts 8:26-40.
4. The ability to say let go and restructure your priorities.
Get ready to say goodbye to some friends, cities, thought processes, habits… goodbye to
“opportunities”, and even family… ask Abraham. The goodbyes to people are not because
they are bad people but because they aren’t going where you are going; as simple as that. No hard feelings. Abraham had to leave his home of serving idols to follow a God he didn’t know. Initially when he left, he took his nephew Lot, whom Abraham was raising. Technically, because of Lot’s presence when he left his hometown, he didn’t separate from his father’s house in God’s eyes!
God had to instruct him to separate with him after a dispute amongst their servants so Abram (his name at the time) would not be burdened with what wasn’t his problem. It was a family responsibility to take care of Lot, not a divine one.  I’m not advocating abandoning your family. What I am saying is, listen God when He cuts you loose from the responsibility of things that He is taking care of.
Some people aren’t bad… they just weigh a lot and you can’t support the extra load with the long journey attached to your yes.
5. The opportunity to be who God has always dreamed for you to be.
Moses was always called of God but was extremely unsure about going when He encountered God at the burning bush. Yet, God was not asking him to be anything he wasn’t already. Moses, in the many roles he had in his life, was always a deliverer. Before going back to Egypt, he killed to deliver an Israelite from an Egyptian. When he got to Midian, he delivered his future in-laws from dangerous shepherds. God had to encounter him at the burning bush with his identity so Moses could be an actual deliverer with His power instead of with human power. It was then that he became the spokesperson and deliverer for God in front of thousands of people… even with an anger problem and a speech impediment!
There’s something I’ve heard said time and time again: “God is not the only one that has a destiny for you; you have a version, and the devil has one too”. The mark on Moses’ life was to be a deliverer. In his journey, he killed a man while trying to walk in his purpose. The enemy could have used that because Pharaoh wanted to kill him and he would not have become a true deliverer. He delivered his family-in-law and he got himself a place to stay after that. He could have turned into someone who helps and delivers others for his own gain because he didn’t know who he was. But when God aligns you in destiny, your yes will be clear — to the glory of GOD alone and you will see that this was your life’s purpose all along.
God is calling people to walk in their true calling unapologetically and He is willing to walk with us on the journey through self-doubt, fear, anxiety, and disappointment. Each and every person who has been called by God has faced these things. Even Jesus before He took the Cross for us did not want to drink the cup of the Father’s wrath against sin to the point of sweating blood. But He accomplished it for us. How much more can we do this for others?
I encourage you to allow God to show you where you can begin to start offering Him a yes. God doesn’t ask you to do anything He already hasn’t released provision for. Like I said before, it takes bravery to be authentic. If you feel like you don’t have bravery or even the will to say yes, you don’t have to make it up. You can ask God for it, and He will give it, without any condemnation for asking “too many times” or needing assurance “too many times”. It’s so reassuring to know God is not like man. There’s nothing to prove to Him, because nothing surprises Him!Remember:

” for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.”
– Philippians 2:13

” If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
– James 1:5

Those promises are sure. Your yes matters and with Jesus, you are more than able to be and do what He has asked.
