Why Your Obedience Matters

Your obedience is connected to God who connects it with other people. They need to hear what on the inside of you. Their destinies and livelihoods are connected to you. Are you ready to yield?

Have you ever felt like your choices don’t really matter? Have you ever questioned if your purpose or your obedience to God is actually relevant to others around you? When life becomes regular-degular, you feel regular-degular; you get caught up in the day to day.

My ultimate career choice was to become a lawyer. I have days where I want my Juris Doctor so bad. Everything in me wanted to be a lawyer. Prior to that decision, I had wanted to be a journalist; a columnist to be exact. But in grade eleven that all changed. At first, I wanted to go to ORU (Oral Roberts University), but after taking my first Canadian law class, I fell in love with it and its processes and procedures; my heart was set to become an attorney at law. I determined to go to school in Toronto and then move to New York, go to law school, take the bar and practice in the US.

I was also extremely conscious of the fact that the hand of the Lord was on my life and ministry was in my future. I just thought it would all collide somehow (possibly by way of marriage) and I would stop practicing law and enter into ministry. It was only until I didn’t get into my desired schools on time and was completely rerouted to an entirely different city and my now alma mater. That’s a story for another day.

Over ten years later, I’ve been reminded (almost unintentionally) about the promises God has made me on a variety of subjects. From my purpose to my calling to where I’ll go as I live for Him. None of it matches right now. Yet I’m strangely reassured that something rather humongous is going on outside of my physical sphere of vision. That reassurance is what has been leading me to keep going. I’m convinced that He’s doing it all with the future in mind, and I’m choosing to cooperate with Him… although I may or may not have read the fine print.
Why is my yes important? Because there are people who are connected to it. There are people who need to hear what on the inside of me. Their destinies are connected to me. Their livelihood is connected to me.
This applies to you too.

Our lives are not about our lives, although we are the ones having to live it. It’s all about being a conduit to Abba’s people. Future sons and daughters of His who don’t know about or can’t imagine the possibility of adoption into His family yet. It’s all so humbling to know that yes, all of this has a purpose. All of this is in God’s plan.Everything that God said and shown will literally materialize! In the meantime though, be reassured with me that, no matter where you are in the process of your promise, HE WILL DO EXACTLY AS HE SAID.

If there is anything you take away from this post, let it be this:
Your “yes” to God doesn’t need to be full of understanding of what is next. It just needs to be full of trust, availability and willingness. That’s all He wants. “Yes” is where the journey begins. Or continues, because saying “yes” will never stop.
